The icon of Singapore, the Merlion, is a combination of a lion's head and fish body. The lion's head represents Singapore, also known as the lion city, and the fish represents Singapore's origin as a fishing village.
There are multiple merlion statues around Singapore, but the original is the one located at the mouth of Singapore River, in the Merlion Park. This statue has been moved 120m to the current location in 2002, since the construction of the Esplanade Bridge blocked the Merlion from the river.
