Food Review - Sonido!

A quick review of an interesting cafe we tried last weekend. A short stroll down Gertrude St in Fitzroy lead us to this cute little cafe called Sonido! that serves South American food, or more accurately Colombian food.

The cafe is relatively small and has a very relaxing atmosphere, nice music, and friendly staff. The menu is pretty limited, with focus on two types of food: arepas (dough with filling on top) and empanadas (stuffed bread or pastry). The traditional Colombian hot chocolate is recommended, it is very sweet and has a strong scent of chocolate, with less of the milky flavour of usual hot chocolates.

Colombian Hot Chocolate
Arepa de choclo - sweet corn arepa - highly recommended!

Arepa con huevo - crispy arepa with scrambled eggs

Empanada de espinaca y queso - spinach and cheese

Overall a very recommended cafe, with interesting choice of food and great atmosphere. The entrance is quite easy to miss as it's not clearly marked, so look out for this store:
